Growing Healthy Smiles

The American Dental Association and Wisconsin Dental Association recommend that a child's first visit to the dentist happen when the first tooth erupts or by age one. At Lakeview Dental Care, we accept patients as young as one, and we believe this early visit helps build trust in the dental office and sets the tone for lifelong oral health care. It is also a great time for parents to learn how to protect those precious baby teeth with the right food and beverage choices, brushing techniques, fluoride application, sealants, and what to expect at future visits.

Our role as your Manitowoc area children's dentist is not just to clean teeth or fill cavities, but to help children grow into confident adult patients who value their oral health. By bringing your child to us at an early age, you can help prevent dental concerns before they become bigger problems and give your child a positive experience that can last a lifetime. Although rare, if we feel your child needs the care of a specialist in children's dentistry, we will refer you to a qualified pediatric dentist. We prefer to see children from an early age so we can provide continuous care for their lifetime.

Preventing Cavities

Fluoride Treatment - One way to help prevent cavities from occurring is through the use of fluoride. Fluoride is a naturally-occurring mineral that helps harden the tooth enamel and make it more resistant to tooth decay. Fluoride can be delivered to the teeth in 2 ways: topically (direct contact on the teeth) and systemically (enters the body through drinking water) . Dr. Song, your child's dentist, will discuss optimal fluoride sources and recommend fluoride treatments with you.

Dental Sealants -Sealants are a great option for the prevention of dental decay because they act as a physical barrier to bacteria and food that can occupy the grooves of primary (baby) teeth or adult teeth. A dental sealant is a thin plastic film applied to the chewing surfaces of molars and premolars to fill the grooves and pits.

Applying dental sealants is easy and painless. Sealants typically last five years, but can last for as long as ten years. Dr. Song will examine the integrity of your child's sealants at return visits.

It’s always a great experience at Lakeview Dental! Everyone, from the front desk to Dr.Song, is always friendly, professional, and thorough. Lakeview is also one of the few places that offer GBF therapy (hygienist, Brenda, is trained and skilled in this) as an alternative to the usual form of cleaning by scraping. It’s one reason we make the 60 plus mile drive to Lakeview. Thank you for over 30 years of great service and care! Carol Ferlo

I started going to Lakeview Dental a few years ago from transitioning from an out of town dentist all of my 60+ years, which was 40 miles away. I haven't had any complaints or concerns yet. Now, with Dr. Song's addition and experience, it makes it even more gratifying to know that I made the right decision so far!
